What style of karate do you teach?

At Living Sword Karate our core curriculum comes for Shotokan Karate. We also suppliment the curriculum with techniques and information from other styles of martial arts that better address certain topics of self-defense.

When are your classes?

We have classes in the evenings on Monday and Tuesday, during the day on Tuesday and Thursday, as well as in the morning on Saturday. For a complete class schedule visit our Schedule page.

How many classes can I attend?

Your membership with Living Sword Karate entitles you to participate in any class we offer at any of our club locations. We recommend that you attend at least two classes each week to reinforce what you will be learning.

Can I bring all of my children/family to the same class?

All ages are welcome to participate together in our Family Class on Saturday morning at Advent The Family Karate program is a fun way for the whole family to get involved at the same time. If Saturday classes do not fit your schedule, please check our schedule or contact us and we can find a good fit for your family.

Where are you located/How do I find you?

Living Sword Karate has clubs at three different locations. At Covenant United Methodist Church, classes are held in the Smith Covenant Center. At Advent Presbyterian Church, classes are held in the Christian Life Center. At Word of Faith Christian Academy classes are held in the gym for students at WOFCA. View the church addresses on the locations page.

What should I wear to class?

On your first class just wear something loose and comfortable such as shorts or sweats and a t-shirt. Your instructor will speak with you about purchasing a uniform and explain your options.

Karate like any good exercise program is designed to work with all fitness levels and help you gradually improve your overall fitness. You are encouraged to move at your own pace and respect your limits. Find a karate program that is right for you.

Am I too old to start karate?

Our programs are design to work for all ages from 3 years old and up. We have had the pleasure of learning from and teaching people of all ages and have found that people of any age can start learning karate and enjoy it.

How long does it take to earn a Black Belt?

The Black Belt is the first step on a lifetime journey of personal discovery and usually takes anywhere from 3 to 5 years. From there there are degrees of Black Belt that represent further learning and eventually mastery of Karate.

How much does your program cost?

Membership dues at Living Sword Karate are only $55 per month. That's it no changes, no surprises.

Are there other costs involved?

We do charge an activation fee of $35 to get you started (you won't pay membership until the next full month). There are also belt tests. For a complete list of dues and fees visit our Schedule page.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No. Our students come back month after month and year after year because we have built a solid, exciting program and a positive learning environment not because they have signed a contract.

Where and when do I get my uniform and gear?

Living Sword Karate is a full service karate and sports equipment retailer and can supply you with anything you might need. Just speak to your instructor about what you might need or want and they can help you make the right purchase for you.

How much does the equipment cost?

Equipment costs vary based on the options you choose but we have put together several basic packages to keep your costs down. Your instructor will go over all of the equipment options up front so you know what to expect and can plan your budget accordingly.
