About Living Sword Karate

Karate translated means either "Chinese hand" or "Empty hand" depending on which Japanese characters you use to write it. Modern Karate formed in Okinawa with influences from China, spreading to Japan and, eventually, the rest of the world.

Living Sword Karate teaches a core of Shotokan Karate and emphasizes its use for self-defense. Additional self-defense methods are taught including control and escape techniques as well as practical fighting skills.

Living Sword also teaches a traditional weapons program including traditional forms, self-defense, and fighting techniques from Okinawan Kobudo.

Under the direction of Nelson Martial Arts & Sport Fitness, the Living Sword Karate School teaches classes for all ages from Preschoolers to Adults with specialized programs for each age group. Our club based approach allows us to present these programs through our host facilities with reasonable membership dues and no contracts to sign.
